ABOUT THIS SWITCH

The stop light switch is threaded into the pedal bracket and held by a locking nut. When the brake pedal is pressed the plunger releases and the switch powers the brake lights.

On Elantra XD and Lavita models the plastic switch body and internal spring age with heat cycling in the footwell, so the brake lights become intermittent before failing completely.
