ABOUT THIS OIL SEAL

This seal sits at the transaxle end of the front driveshaft on every Elantra generation from the XD through to the AD/ADA, keeping transmission fluid contained while the shaft spins freely.

As the seal ages, fluid weeps past the lip and the transmission fluid level drops - on the SR Turbo AD/ADA in particular, low fluid under hard driving can accelerate wear, so it pays to catch a leak early.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE

• Oil or transmission fluid pooling under the front of the vehicle near the driveshaft
• Low transmission or transaxle fluid level with no other obvious leak source
• Fluid residue or staining on the inner CV boot or driveshaft
• Grinding or whining noise from the transmission as fluid runs low
• Transmission overheating or harsh shifting caused by fluid starvation
