ABOUT THIS THERMOSTAT

On the Theta II G4KD/G4KE/G4KJ and Nu G4NA/G4NC engines the thermostat controls when coolant reaches the radiator. In a heavy SUV under tow load an ageing thermostat that sticks part-closed lets temperatures climb fast.

Left unchecked, repeated overheating can warp the alloy cylinder head - replacing an 82 degree thermostat is a cheap way to protect the engine.
