ABOUT THIS THERMOSTAT

On the 1.6 T-GDi SUVs the thermostat works alongside the electric water pump control to hold the engine at 82 degrees C. In a heavier AWD body under load an ageing thermostat that sticks part-closed lets temperatures climb quickly.

Repeated overheating risks a warped alloy head on these small turbo engines - an 82 degree thermostat is an inexpensive way to protect them.
