ABOUT THIS THERMOSTAT

On the Alpha G4EC/G4ED/G4EE engines the thermostat sits in the outlet housing and controls warm-up. These small engines lose heat quickly, so a thermostat stuck open shows up as a slow-moving temperature gauge and a weak heater.

Running cold also keeps the ECU in warm-up enrichment, which costs fuel and can set a P0128 coolant thermostat code.
