ABOUT THIS SENSOR
The 4-wire narrowband O2 sensor fitted across Ford Barra 4.0L and Windsor / Barra 5.4L V8 engines monitors exhaust oxygen content both upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter. On Falcon FG and Territory SZ models the ECU uses two sensors per bank - a degraded post-cat sensor is frequently the source of false P0420 catalyst efficiency codes on otherwise healthy Barra engines.
On AU Falcon Intech models the single pre-cat sensor directly controls fuel trims. Failure causes rich running and increased fuel consumption before the Check Engine light illuminates. On LPG bi-fuel variants a degraded sensor disrupts the petrol-to-LPG switchover and causes rough running on both fuels.

How do I replace an oxygen sensor?
Most O2 sensors thread directly into the exhaust pipe or manifold. You will need an O2 sensor socket (22mm with a slot for the wire) and penetrating oil if the sensor is seized.
