ABOUT THIS SENSOR

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on the Defender DT244 PUMA and Freelander 2 224DT measures intake air mass and signals the ECU for precise fuel and boost control. The DT244 PUMA is a Ford-sourced engine - this is the same MAF insert platform used in the Ford Transit TDCi family. Insert-only fitment into the existing air intake housing via a 4-pin oval connector on a 12V circuit. When it fails the ECU defaults to a fixed air map causing limp mode and lost towing or off-road capability.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE

Limp mode under towing or climbing load - power restricted to protect the engine.
Black smoke under hard acceleration and higher fuel consumption.
Fault codes P0100 or P0101 with rough warm idle.

COMMON QUESTIONS

My Freelander 2 - how do I check the VIN cutoff?
This sensor suits Freelander 2 L359 models up to VIN AH999999 only. Check your VIN on the A-pillar door jamb or chassis plate. Later build Freelander 2 models use a different sensor specification with a different OEM number.

Does this include the housing?
No - insert only. The sensor element slides into your existing housing in the air intake pipe. Housing replacement is not needed in normal service on Defender or Freelander 2 applications.
