ABOUT THIS SENSOR

The MAP sensor measures manifold absolute pressure and sends the reading to the ECU for fuelling and boost control. On the Defender PUMA diesel and the Ducato 2.2D this unit also integrates an air temperature sensor - both the pressure and temperature signals are handled by a single plug-in component.

A faulty MAP sensor causes the ECU to lose its accurate boost reference. The Defender will typically enter limp mode to protect the engine until the sensor is replaced.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE

• Check engine light or EML warning active
• Entering limp mode at highway speed or under load
• Reduced power output and loss of turbo boost
• Black smoke and rough running at idle
• Fault codes P0105 / P0107 / P0108 / P2227
