ABOUT THIS SENSOR

The fuel temperature sensor is an NTC sensor that measures fuel temperature and reports it to the ECU, which uses the reading to fine-tune injection timing and fuel quantity on VW's common-rail TDI engines.

A failing sensor commonly triggers fault code P0182 or P0183 on VW's Bosch EDC17/MED17 engine management, along with reduced power, black exhaust smoke or hesitation under load - most noticeable on the higher-output BiTDI and V6/V8 TDI variants.
