Oil Pressure Gauge Sensor for HSV Clubsport GTS Maloo Senator LS3
Heavy Duty Fit Replaces 12673134
BRAND NEW *OEM Quality* engine oil pressure gauge sensor to suit HSV Clubsport, GTS, Maloo, Senator and Grange 6.2L LS3 built from 06/2009.
Watching the oil pressure gauge is second nature in an LS3 HSV, so a sender that reads low on a hot lap is genuinely alarming. Australian owned and operated.
TO SUIT
HSV Clubsport VE and VF including R8 and R8 LPG, GTS VE, Maloo VE and VF, Senator VE and VF, and Grange WM WN and VF, in 6.2L LS3 376CUV8 from 317kW to 340kW, built from 06/2009. Also suits the LSA supercharged Maloo VF.
FITMENT CHECK
HSV VE models built before 06/2009 with the 6.0L LS2 take CPS61. If your car is an LS2 307kW it is almost certainly the earlier sender - the LS3 changeover and the sender changeover happened close together but are not the same date.
Compare the plug on your old sensor to the product images. This sensor has a large round black connector filling the end of the body. CPS61 has a small square terminal block recessed inside a metal collar.

ABOUT THIS SENSOR
LS3 HSVs see far higher sustained oil temperatures than the equivalent Commodore, and heat cycling is what kills these senders. Track-driven cars typically lose sender accuracy long before a standard road car of the same age.
Because HSV owners run a real gauge rather than a dummy light, a drifting sender is easy to mistake for a genuine oiling problem on a car that is actually healthy.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FAILURE
- Gauge reading low after sustained high rpm or track use
- Pressure reading that does not recover once the oil cools
- Needle swinging erratically under load
- Oil pressure warning light with normal mechanical gauge pressure
- Check engine light with codes P0521 or P0523
- Oil seeping from the sender plug

What is the difference between an oil pressure sensor and an oil pressure switch?
An oil pressure switch is a simple on/off device that triggers the oil pressure warning light when pressure drops below a fixed threshold. It provides no information about the actual pressure level - just whether it is above or below the activation point. An oil pressure sensor provides a continuous analogue signal to the ECU and instrument cluster, allowing the dashboard to display an actual pressure reading and giving the ECU real-time data for engine management decisions. Many vehicles use both - a switch for the warning light and a sensor for the gauge.
What are the symptoms of a faulty oil pressure sensor or switch?
The most common symptom is a false oil pressure warning light on the dashboard despite the engine having correct oil level and pressure. The light may be on constantly or may flicker particularly at idle when oil pressure is naturally at its lowest. An oil leak from around the sensor or switch body is also a common sign of failure. On vehicles with a pressure gauge rather than just a warning light, a faulty sensor may cause the gauge to read zero, maximum, or erratically.
How do I confirm if the oil pressure warning is a faulty sensor or actual low pressure?
Never assume a warning light is a faulty sensor without checking first. Turn the engine off immediately when the oil pressure light comes on and check the oil level on the dipstick. If oil level is correct, you can verify actual oil pressure by fitting a mechanical oil pressure gauge to the sending unit port and running the engine briefly. A reading within the normal range (typically 200 to 500 kPa at operating temperature and idle) confirms the warning is from a faulty sensor rather than actual low pressure.
Is it safe to continue driving with the oil pressure warning light on?
No - stop the engine as soon as it is safe to do so. An actual low oil pressure condition will cause catastrophic engine damage within minutes of continued running. Even if the fault turns out to be a faulty sensor, you cannot confirm this while driving. Always treat an oil pressure warning light as a critical fault requiring immediate attention until proven otherwise.
How difficult is it to replace an oil pressure sensor or switch?
Most oil pressure sensors and switches are threaded directly into the engine block or oil filter housing and can be replaced with basic tools - a socket or spanner of the correct size and some thread sealant. Allow the engine to cool before removal to avoid burns from hot oil. Have a rag ready to catch the small amount of oil that will spill when the old sensor is removed. The job typically takes 15 to 30 minutes on most vehicles.
Will a faulty oil pressure sensor damage the engine?
The sensor itself does not affect oil pressure or lubrication - it only monitors and reports pressure. A faulty sensor that gives a false low reading may cause unnecessary anxiety but will not damage the engine. However if the sensor gives a false normal reading when actual pressure is low, it will prevent the warning light from alerting you to a real low pressure condition that could cause serious engine damage. This is why verifying actual oil pressure is important before dismissing an oil pressure fault as a sensor issue.
