This cylinder Head Temperature Sensor is suitable for the BA, BF, FG, and FGX 4.0L Falcon engines, including both turbo and non-turbo engines.

Suits 6cyl 4.0L AU BA BF FG + MK2 Falcons from 1999-2014

This is the “M10 sensor has a 10mm thread & a 2 pin plug ”, and this will fit straight onto your vehicle at the back of the cylinder head.

Note: FG Falcons also used an M12 sensor. Please check yours before buying

As you will see in the picture, the sensor is available in 2 sizes: 10 mm and 12 mm. You will also notice that the locators for where you plug in the sensor into the wiring are different for both sensors. Unfortunately, Ford appears to have used both sensors throughout the full production run, from 2002 to the final cars in 2016.

You will need to measure the thread and select the correct one for your car.

Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) Sensor measures the actual metal temperature of the engine cylinder head. This provides the ECU with precise, real-time data to prevent catastrophic engine damage from overheating.

How It Works:

The CHT sensor is a vital part of the "Fail-Safe Cooling" strategy. It screws directly into a "dry" socket in the cylinder head (not into the coolant jacket). If the engine begins to overheat, even if there is total coolant loss, this sensor alerts the PCM to alternate the firing of cylinders, allowing the engine to air-cool itself and prevent the aluminium head from warping.

Symptoms of a Faulty CHT Sensor:

• Check Engine Light is on (Common codes: P1288, P1289, P1290, P1299).
• The temperature gauge is reading erratically (spiking to Hot or dropping to Cold).
• "Limp Mode" / Reduced Power: The car feels sluggish as the ECU tries to protect the engine.
• Cooling fans are running constantly at high speed.
• Poor Fuel Economy due to incorrect fuel mixture adjustments.
