ABOUT THIS SENSOR
The coolant temperature sensor on the Colorado's Duramax diesel monitors coolant temperature and sends a signal to the ECU to manage fuel injection timing, glow plug operation, and idle speed - particularly important on a diesel during cold starts and warm-up towing conditions.
A failing sensor on the Duramax can cause hard cold starts, black smoke when warm, poor fuel economy, and temperature-related fault codes. Replacing it is a straightforward workshop job accessible from the engine bay.
