ABOUT THIS SENSOR
The mass airflow sensor measures the volume of air entering the engine so the ECU can calculate the correct fuel injection quantity for each operating condition. On the Ford Escape platform, this sensor is a bolted insert-type unit with an integrated intake air temperature element.
When it fails the ECU switches to open-loop fuelling, causing rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, increased fuel consumption and often an illuminated check engine light.
